Beyond the PhD: Exploring your options

Are you in the final stages of your PhD and wondering what comes next or how you can get into the career you want?

This AHRC Midlands4Cities and ESRC Midlands Graduate School online joint careers workshop (two sessions) will delve into career options and how to maximise your potential.  

Workshop 1: Routes into academic careers – Wednesday 16th June 10.00 – 12.30

This session is ideal for those planning to pursue an academic career. Sessions will feature details on:

  • Funding opportunities for early career researchers
  • Postdoctoral Fellowship opportunities  
  • Knowledge Transfer Partnerships
  • AHRC and ESRC alumni talking about their experience post PhD

Workshop 2: Making the most of your skills and non-academic career options – Friday 18th June 10.00 to 12.30

This session will apply to all late-stage PhDs. It will enable you to refocus and review your current skill set whilst learning more about non-academic careers.

The workshop will cover:

  • Training needs
  • Articulating your skills and experience for future employers
  • Hear from AHRC and ESRC alumni who are working outside academia
  • Tips from PhD students who graduated in the 2008 financial crisis

This session will be delivered by Researcher Training colleagues, Careers advisors, DTP alumni who have graduated and secured positions outside the academy.
