Borders and Crossings 2023 is part of a long-running series of international conferences devoted to the interdisciplinary study of travel writing.
The 2023 event will take place at the University of Łódź and is organised by Dr Joanna Kruczkowska (University of Łódź) and AHRC PhD researcher Ross Cameron (University of Glasgow).
The Borders and Crossings conference series was first hosted in Derry in 1998 by Glenn Hooper and Tim Youngs and has since taken place on a regular basis in locations in Europe, Asia, and Australia. Borders and Crossings has played a catalytic role in the development of travel writing studies as it provides a forum for scholars across a range of disciplines (literary studies, history, creative writing, geography, etc.) and from wide variety of national contexts to meet regularly, to explore an increasingly rich corpus of travel writing from across a wide range of time periods, and to debate its importance to the Arts and Humanities.
Borders and Crossings particularly encourages the participation of postgraduate students and provides an opportunity to present research and creative work in a friendly and inclusive setting.
