The aim of the dialogue day is to open up discussion and provide training and networking opportunities for PhD students and early career researchers who are undertaking language-based research into sensitive subjects and taboo topics. These may include, but are not restricted to, such topics as:
- Mental and physical illness
- Sex, sexuality and sexual health
- Death, bereavement and grief
- Menstruation, fertility and menopause
The dialogue day will also provide an opportunity for you to meet stakeholders (including charities, NGOs, Trusts, and businesses) working in areas related to these topics.
Through attending, we hope you will acquire a deeper understanding of the issues surrounding research into sensitive topics, enabling you to conduct language-based research that is both rigorous and methodologically sound, but also compassionate and sensitive towards both those affected by the issue, and you, the researcher. We also hope to establish a community of researchers working on sensitive topics in the West Midlands, with potential to connect with stakeholders, opening doors for future collaboration.
