M4C Alumni Network Placement


M4C is delighted to offer three new internal placements working with the M4C Central Team. This placement is for a student to work on developing M4C’s alumni network. 

M4C wants to develop a better alumni network. This role will be crucial in helping to support the design and delivery of a new alumni policy. 

The placement holder will be able to take the project in their own direction, in consultation with the M4C supervisor but elements of the work will include:

  • Developing and implementing ways to maintain contact with M4C alumni 
  • Researching and building an M4C alumni network, including devising and running a student focus group 
  • Devising ways to engage M4C alumni: training, career support, funding notification 
  • Exploring potential alumni events (virtual or in-person) 
  • Contribute to the M4C annual report to the AHRC 
  • Attend and present work at relevant M4C site director meetings and the M4C Management Committee 

This role will offer the placement student first-hand experience of working within HE professional services. It will develop a range of skills for future careers including project management, communication, organisation and teamwork. The student may also be able to attend internal M4C and University of Nottingham events and training (subject to availability).

About You

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, be able to liasie with a variety of different stakeholders and have a good sense of the PhD and post-PhD lanscape. Familiarity with databases and managing datasets will be a useful skill.

  • Research skills 
  • Be able to liaise effectively and confidently with a wide range of diverse stakeholders
  • Work autonomously
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, including Outlook, Word, Excel 
  • Excellent organisational skills with ability to manage deadlines
  • Ability to think creatively and problem solve
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of different social media platforms
Practicalities and How to Apply 

The placement will be offered on a part-time basis (c. 2days a week) for up to 3 months full-time equivalent (60 days).  The majority of the placement will involve remote working, with occasional in-person days at the M4C Central Team office at the University of Nottingham. If preferred, the placement could operate remotely. The duration and working pattern will be agreed in discussion with the successful candidate. 

The successful candidate will be able to apply for up to £1400 in travel expenses and for an extension to their stipend equivalent to the duration of the placement (where applicable).
