Thesis title:
This project examines the role that physical theatre and actor training pedagogies, specifically that of Jacques Lecoq, can play in the working within the England and Wales prison estate. In practice, I focus on the body as a site of knowledge and creation. My research aims to develop new methods for creating theatre within prisons focused on movement as core methodology, seeking to offer new insights into the role that the embodiment plays in critically thinking about incarceration, prisons and punishment; and a new enquiry into the possibilities of the pedagogy of Jacques Lecoq in applied community settings.
Theoretically, my work is informed by innovative approaches to justice, the embodiment of incarceration and the history and practice of movement in actor training, as well as performance training methods in contemporary theatre education.
