Thesis title:
This research investigates 20th-century concrete architecture through the extensive Concrete Society archives, encompassing technical journals, photographs, films etc. It employs AI as an analytical tool to uncover previously unseen connections, patterns, and correlations within the archival material, deepening understanding of the material, cultural, and ecological dimensions of concrete. By bridging analogue and digital methodologies, the study explores how AI can enhance interpretation and accessibility of architectural archives while critically addressing issues of authorship, originality, and ethics. The findings aim to inform more sustainable strategies for the use and adaptive reuse of existing concrete buildings in a post-carbon future.
