Thesis title:

The Resistance will be Rural: Grassroots Activism in Contemporary Appalachia

My thesis explores contemporary conflicts on the American left through the prism of grassroots activism, both current and historical, in the Appalachian region of the United States. I am interested in how developments in the labour movement, queer activism and working class– led feminism offer a potential blueprint for the cohesion of popular incarnations of identity politics with more traditional leftist quests for economic justice.
