Public Engagement & Impact

Convened an Association of Dress Historian's themed international conference, titled Fashioning the Body for Sport and Leisure: A History of Dress and Textiles held on 30 September-1 October 2022 at the historic Art Workers Guild, 6 Queen Square, London, England.

Short talk on a 1930s hand-knitted bathing suit from the Worthing Museum & Art Gallery collection. Presented at Objects Unwrapped: Hidden Histories, 30th June 2018 at Worthing Museum.

Developed and ran student-led taster lessons based on degree subject. Titled 'Dress Detectives,' aimed at year 9 student and introduce them to object analysis and material culture to undertake a practical activity investigating dress artefacts in groups. As part of Student Recruitment and Outreach Ambassador role, September 2017 to October 2019. 


Other Research Interests

Emmy's research interests include homemade clothing, women’s periodicals, and Interwar fashion. Deriving from her undergraduate and masters dissertations, Emmy has a particular interest in clothing for sport and leisure with a specific specialism in interwar beachwear.

Yarwood Award 2019 issued by The Costume Society, June 2019. An award of £500 to an MA student engaged in high quality research in dress history to support travel expenditure to archives.

 Undergraduate Student Essay Prize issued by Design History Society, September 2018. International prize awarded to a high quality and outstanding undergraduate dissertation. 

 Student Fellowship issued by Association of Dress Historians, February 2018.
