Thesis title:

Labouring Bodies: Gender, Caste, and Agency in Ritual Performance in the Central Himalayas of North India

I am a first year PhD scholar in Theatre and Performance Studies at University of Warwick. My research interests lie in the intersection of performance studies, gender studies, and critical race studies. I am currently working on a dissertation project examining the cultural practices and performance traditions in the central Himalayan region of North India through the lens of the ‘labouring/performing body,’ which actively negotiates and constitutes these cultural performances. In doing so, I will attend to the questions around the politics of the dominant caste elite in the region and the impact of dominant socio-political, cultural, and neoliberal forces on local-regional performance traditions in the Central Himalayas of North India.
