Thesis title:

Locating Regional Cultures of Drag in Medium-Sized English Cities: An Ethnographic Case Study of Nottingham's Drag Scene

This research aims to explore the socioeconomic dimensions of regional drag scenes and investigate how these cultures of performance mobilize communities and economies of particular regions. The project will be framed by the case study of Nottingham: a mid-sized city with an emerging drag scene despite the absence of established queer performance venues. Through a mixed methodology, with heavy reliance on the interviewing of local drag performers, online surveys and performance observations, this project further seeks to bridge a potential academic gap between sociological and theatrical research fields within this domain.
